Alpine Runners Training Runs

Tuesday Evening Fun Runs

Starting time is 6:30 PM at the Lake Zurich Barn at Paulus Park, located directly across from the Lake Zurich Wendy's on Route 12 (Rand Rd.), 1/2 mile north of Route 22 (on the east side). Some runners meet at 6:15 PM for a 1 1/2 mile warm-up. Paces for this fun run vary between a 7:00 and 11:00 minute pace. Distances vary from 5 1/2 to 7 miles (or more if you wish). Please wear appropriate clothing for winter running, including reflective clothing for night running! This event has been going on for a long-long time, and there are always runners present, except when the weather is EXTREMELY severe! Call Beth at 847-438-8843 for more details.

Saturday Morning Runs

Starting time is 7:00 am at the Lake Zurich High School lower parking lot. Although this run is also used for marathon training, anyone can join us! Distances range from 4.5 miles (around the lake) to 6.0, 8.0, 10.5, 12.0, 15.0, up to 22 miles just before the Chicago marathon. We have a number of different groups running from 6.5 to 12.0 minute miles, so there's a distance and speed for almost everyone. This event has been going on for over 10 years now, and there are almost always runners present. There is also a group of walkers and injured runners joining the Saturday morning workouts.

Water and Gatorade are generally available at the miles 3, 5, 7, and 9.  Additional aid stations are often set up at 11, 14, 17 and 19 during the Chicago Marathon training season.

Sunday Morning Runs

This is not an Alpine Runners sponsored event, but many of us show up to run. Starting time is 7:00 am at "Fischer Chicago's Hometown Nut" (formally the Home Economist) in Barrington located on the corner of Hillside and Route 14 (Northwest Highway). Be there at 7:00 am sharp or you'll be running alone. The route is a hilly 10.6 mile loop. Paces vary between 7:00 and 10:00 minutes per mile. Those tending to run a little slower start out a little earlier than the faster paced runners in order for all runners to finish at approximately the same time.

Please follow our Alpine Runners Rules of the Road

  • Always run on the left side of the road.

  • Run in a single file when oncoming cars are approaching.

  • Never split from the group.  Stay to the left when oncoming cars are approaching.

  • Always run behind any stopped vehicles at crossways.

  • Always run in a single file from miles 2.5 through 3.5 along Old Rand Road on our course.

  • Always run on the sidewalk whenever possible.
